QUESTION: How do you know if your axle spindle is bad?

ANSWER: Most of the time the bearing journal wear will be on the bottom side of the spindle. Spindles need to measure within 0.006" of the original size to ensure proper bearing fit. You can use calipers or micrometers to measure the bearing journals or you can use the United Axle spindle testers which are an easy to use GO-NO/GO gage. When checking the spindle journals if the gage slides to the "NO/GO" side then you know that spindle has more than 0.006" wear. You also should be inspecting the threads on the end of the spindle as well as the seal journal for damage.

QUESTION: How long does it take to replace a spindle?

ANSWER: The United Axle spindle replacement process takes approximately 2-3 hours for the initial installation. Once our technology is installed on your axle, if you need a spindle replaced again the replacement process is only 45 minutes.

QUESTION: What is the spindle or stub of an axle?

QUESTION: What are some signs of spindle damage?

ANSWER: Leaky seals, metal shavings in the hub oil, hot hubs, pitted bearings are all signs of a problem and should be checked out by a wheel end certified specialist to determine if the spindle needs to be replaced.
